I'm excited to announce that I'll be running a new workshop on the Isle of Skye in March 2023. It's not new, exactly, because I have led several Skye workshops over the years, but my last one was in 2016!

We'll be based in the lovely Loch Eyre House guesthouse, just 10 minutes outside Portree, which is ideally located so we can explore all corners of this magnificent island. I have booked the entire guesthouse, so we'll be the only guests staying there for the 6 nights of the workshop and everyone gets an en-suite room with single occupancy. I am also offering a free pick-up from Glasgow airport on March 23rd, so if you don't want to drive all the way to Skye, you can fly to Glasgow. I'll be offering a transfer back to Glasgow Airport on March 29th too. Once I have taken enough bookings to make the trip viable, I will recommend a meeting time at Glasgow airport, so you can book suitable flights.

Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides and linked to the mainland by a bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. It's basically a series of wild and dramatic peninsulas radiating from a centre that's dominated by the stunning Cuillin Mountains. During our stay on Skye, we'll explore and photograph all the key locations, heading out before dawn each day to ensure we're on location well before sunrise, and staying out until the sun has set each evening (weather permitting). We'll be shooting amazing scenery both inland and on the coast.

Key locations to include:

• The Trotternish Peninsula and Quiraing, a fabulous collection of rock formations and pinnacles caused by a massive landslip millions of years ago

•  Elgol for its rugged coastline and amazing view across Loch Scavaig towards the Black Cuillins at sunset

• Neist Point, a fantastic clifftop location at sunset when the rocks turn orange and the composition is completed by the lighthouse far below.

• Sligachan, for its wild river and views of Glen Sligachan and the Cuillins

• Glen Brittle and the wonderful Fairy Pools

• The Old Man of Storr, a towering rock pinnacle - we'll undertake the hour-long hike one morning to get the best view at sunrise (weather permitting).

• Talisker Bay, which has a beach of black volcanic boulders and black sand

These are merely the highlights - we'll photograph many other less-known locations too, and make roadside stops as we travel between destinations to take advantage of the scenery and every-changing light. I will keep the itinerary open and flexible so we can make the most of our time. Skye is also a fantastic island for black & white and infrared photography.

A moderate level of fitness will be required for this trip. The only 'hike' of note will be a one-hour steady uphill walk to the viewpoint for the Old Man of Storr, which we will aim to undertake one morning to be on location before sunrise. This is obviously optional. Other walks will be much shorter and gentle, though we will be walking on rocky, muddy ground at times, so care will be required and sturdy walking boots are recommended.

I will send out advice on clothing, equipment etc a couple of months before the workshop, but if you have any queries, feel free to email me - info@photoadventures.co.uk.
