TUSCANY IN SPRING - New dates
NOTE: THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL TUSCANY WORKSHOP. THE MAY 2021 TRIP HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED FROM MAY 2020 DUE TO COVID-19 AND IT WAS ALMOST SOLD OUT WHEN THE DATES WERE CHANGED SO I HAVE DECIDED TO RUN A SECOND TRIP SLIGHTLY EARLIER IN THE SEASON.
Spring is a fantastic season to photograph the magnificent Tuscan landscape. The days are long, but the weather is usually dry, and there’s a high probability of seeing the amazing Val d’Orcia (literally behind our hotel) full of mist at dawn. The sunrises and sunsets can also be breathtaking and there’s always a chance of poppies and other wild flowers adding a splash of colour to the undulating landscape.
From our base just outside the ancient hill town of San Quirico d’Orcia (itself a great place to wander around, camera in hand), we’ll explore in all directions and discover the most beautiful scenes in Tuscany – rolling green hills, sculptured cypress trees, winding roads, crumbling farmhouses, magnificent villas (including the villa in the closing scenes of the movie Gladiator), picturesque villages and historic towns and cities such as Pienza and Montepulciano. If time permits, we’ll also travel further afield to the medieval hill towns of Pitigliano and Sorano. Lee will drive the group around in an air-conditioned minibus and be on hand at all times to offer help and advice about equipment choice, composition and technique to help you get the very best from every location.
Our days will be long and full, starting before sunrise and ending after sunset (weather permitting) so we can take full advantage of the best light of the day. The weather can be hot, so we’ll have the option to take a siesta during the afternoon to escape the heat and harsh light for a couple of hours and re-charge our batteries, both literally and metaphorically! There isn't a fixed daily itinerary for this trip as we take each day as it comes in terms of the weather and light and choose locations accordingly. I'd much rather we visit fewer locations and spend quality time at each one, rather than race around Tuscany trying to tick everything off our wish list then being disappointed with the results. Quality is far more important than quantity when it comes to landscape photography!
To get a better idea of the locations and scenery we'll be photographing during the trip, check out my Tuscany portfolio on this website. If you have any queries about the trip, please email me using the Contact page.
