NORTHUMBERLAND’S CASTLES AND COAST - NEW 5 NIGHT WORKSHOP!
Due to a reshuffle of trips early next year, I now find myself with some free time in late March 2024, so I have decided to head north and run an extended workshop on the Northumberland coast. In the past, my Northumberland workshops were for 2 or 3 nights, but with so many great locations on offer - some of which are worth returning to more than once - I have decided to extend this workshop to 5 nights.
Based in the picturesque village of Bamburgh, just a few minute’s walk from the monumental castle and beautiful sandy beach, we will explore and photograph the best locations the Northumberland coast has to offer - the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Spittal Beach near Berwick upon Tweed, Budle Bay, Bamburgh beach and castle, Seahouses, Beadnell, Embleton Bay and Dunstanburgh Castle, Cullernose Point, Rumbling Kern, Alnmouth beach and estuary, Warkworth Castle, Alnwick Castle and Amble Pier.
My plan is also for us to head further down the coast, to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and Blyth to shoot long exposure images of manmade coastal features, St Mary's Lighthouse near Whitley Bay, Roker Pier and Newcastle Quayside for a sunset and dusk shoot. Obviously, we're dependent on the weather, but we'll aim to be out before sunrise each day and stay out until after sunset.
The workshop commences at 6.30pm on March 21st 2024, when we meet for a pre-dinner drink in the bar of the Sunningdale Hotel, Bamburgh (https://www.sunningdale-hotel.com). After a three-course dinner in the hotel's cosy restaurant, I'll present some images of the locations we'll be covering during the workshop. We'll then have 4 dawn-to-dusk days of photography and the workshop will end after a final dawn shoot and breakfast on March 26th.
As well as taking you to fantastic locations, I will also be on hand at all times to offers help and advice on everything from lens choice and composition to filters, mastering depth-of-field, exposure, shooting in Raw, shooting for black & white conversion, infrared and anything else you need to know about the art and craft of coastal landscape photography. I know the Northumberland coast well, having lived there for 12 years, shooting the images for a coffee table book on Northumbria, and leading many workshops in the area - my very first photography workshop was on the Northumberland Coast back in 1998!
If you need to stay on an extra night or two at the hotel before the workshop starts, or after it ends, this can be arranged at extra cost on request.
Check out my Northumberland porfolio to get a better idea of the locations we'll be shooting, plus the Time & Tide porfolio for examples of black & white long exposure images captured on the Northumberland coast.
