PATAGONIA ADVENTURE

£7,750.00 / £700.00 Deposit / Sharing Discount - £1,000.00

This will be my second photo tour in Patagonia and again I'll be working with local photographer and guide Alejandro Capelli. Alejandro has called Patagonia home for over 20 years - he lives in El Calafate - and has led many photo tours there.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The weather in Patagonia is notorious for how quickly it can change, so it's necessary to stay as flexible as possible. We aim to stick to the itinerary outlined below as much as possible, but if necessary, due to the weather, the order in which we visit some locations may vary so we can get the most from them. The hotels where we stay have been chosen to make access to the best locations as convenient as possible, and this photo tour is several days longer than most so we have the time to be flexible and also visit some locations more than once if necessary.

SOME HIKING IS NECESSARY TO GET TO THE BEST LOCATIONS, SO A REASONABLE LEVEL OF FITNESS WILL BE REQUIRED. THE LONGER HIKES ARE OPTIONAL!

Day 1/April 1st 2027: We arrive in El Calafate, Argentia. We willl take taxis from the airport to our hotel. El Calafate is a town of 30,000 inhabitants and is considered the gateway to Patagonia. We will have an introductory meeting with Alejandro to discuss the trip, but there are no activities planned for today.

Day 2/ April 2nd 2027: We depart for the iconic Perito Moreno glacier after breakfast. We are not allowed to get into the park before the doors open to the public at 8 am, so we can’t be there for sunrise. That said, we will make stops along the way to experience and enjoy the Patagonian steppe, as it transitions to a wetter ecosystem as we approach the mountains. We’ll spend the whole day photographing the glacier from so many different angles. Ice continuously calves off the front, humbling the crowd with its magnificence. We’ll return to our hotel in the evening, after sunset.

Day 3/April 3rd 2027: Today we drive from El Calafate to El Chaltén. Driving time is about 2-3hs. The views of the Patagonian steppe along the way are fantastic. The area around El Chaltén is amazing and the town’s vibe contagious. The hotel for the next 4 nights is the  El Chaltén Suites Hotel (https://chaltensuiteshotel.com). We will have a dedicated, private bus to explore the area whenever we want. There is no shortage of options. Once in El Chaltén, we can start deciding on which days we will go up the hiking trails based on the weather forecast. There are plenty of options to do without hiking as well.

Days 4, 5, 6/April 4th-6th 2027: We’ll spend our days in the El Chaltén area chasing the light and exploring the many different landscapes. From grand views to intimate little creeks, with our own transportation and expert guides, we’ll be at the right places at the right time, coming back to town for the night, or a break in the day to enjoy the mountain town vibe and rest. We’ll explore all the main locations, from Laguna Capri, to Cerro Torre, to Chorrillo del Salto waterfall, to Rio Las Vueltas and the many other.

Rio de las Vueltas Canyon: A 10 minutes drive from the village and a 5 minutes walk is all we need to get to this classic location from where the group could take a perfect panoramic shot of all the Fitz Roy Massif, including or not, the meandering river in the foreground.

Laguna Capri Hike: A 4km hike from El Chaltén with an elevation gain of 400 meters, takes around 2 hours to get to. We will leave at least, 3 hours before sunrise, to get there with enough time find compositions and make the most of the light.

Secret Waterfall Hike: 1.5 km after Laguna Capri, using the same trail that continues towards the base of Fitz Roy, we will leave the main trail and reach this beautiful waterfall with the famous towers of granite in the foreground.

Laguna Torre: 9 km each way (18 km round trip) with an elevation gain of 240 meters. Takes around 3 hours just to get to the lagoon, so we will need to leave 4 or 5 hours before sunrise.

Waterfalls: Around El Chaltén, there are several locations with beautiful waterfalls surrounded by colorful southern beech trees.

Day 7/April 7th 2027: After our last sunrise shoot, we'll drive from El Chalten to Torres del Paine, in Chile. Across the border, Chile offers a very different view of the mountains. We’ll enter the park and stay inside the park for the next 5 nights. We’ll spend 3 nights at Hostería Pehoé. The Hostería cannot be beaten, location-wise. The view is just out of this world. We'll then spend 2 nights at the Rio Serrano Hotel.

Days 8, 9, 10, 11/April 8th-11th 2027: Full days photographing around Torres del Paine. Iconic locations like Explora lookout, Camping Pehoé, Lago Grey, Salto Grande and Laguna Amarga just mention the main ones. With a little luck, we could spot pumas, foxes, Andean condors, and for sure guanacos. Any stop along the road is an opportunity to be humbled.

Salto Grande: This location is only 5 minutes away from Pehoé and offers a very close views of Los Cuernos and Paine Grande with the famous burnt trees and a small lake with great potential of reflections.

Hotel Explora lookout: A 5 minute drive from Hostería Pehoé that gives stunning views of Mt. Paine Grande and Los Cuernos.

Laguna Amarga: To reach this location we will need to drive inside of the national park for around 1 1/2 hours. This place offers the best angle for the famous towers of granite and could give, with the right conditions, beautiful reflections of the mountains from the eastern side of the park.

Lago Grey: The Grey lake, which sometimes has icebergs that have broken off from the front of the main glacier of the national park, Grey Glacier. Also, provides awesome angles of Paine Massif from the southern side. Ideal for an afternoon/sunset session.

Day 12/April 12th 2027: Drive back to El Calafate. We may start the journey home today, depending on flight times, or...

Day 13/April 13th 2027: Return flights home
